First Aid Competition

An emergency situation may be just around the corner and, true to its motto, Scouting aims to ensure that our youth are always prepared to safely assist with life-threatening situations. To this end scouts from the 1st Kengray Scout Troop, based in Highland Road in Kensington, participated in the North Rand District first aid competition on Saturday, 5th August. Our Scouts got a chance to demonstrate the potentially lifesaving first aid skills they learn as part of the scout programme. From performing CPR under the supervision of paramedics to treating serious bleeding and assisting motor vehicle accident victims, our scouts learn skills for life in the traditional scouting way – learning by doing.

In addition to gaining practical experience in first aid situations, our scouts also got to interact with emergency services professionals and explore an ambulance and a fire engine under the supervision of paramedics and firemen.
