Scouts from 1st Kengray’s Eagles patrol recently participated in the North Rand District’s annual camping competition held at Lake Deneys Yacht Club in The Free State from 1st to 3rd September. The patrol competed with nine other patrols and beat their nearest competitor by just one point to take this year’s trophy.
Outdoor activities form a fundamental part of scouting – allowing our youth to learn life-skills and develop their characters through adventure – and camping is just one of the outdoor activities scouting offers to fulfil these aims. Our scouts also had the opportunity to usher in Spring with various water activities on the Vaal Dam. They constructed a makeshift raft which, despite the choppy conditions, they bravely took out onto the water. They also went sailing – a novel experience for land scouts.
In addition, each patrol celebrated Arbour Day by planting indigenous trees at the Yacht Club.
