Northrand District BP Sunday 2018

Northrand District’s BP Sunday celebrations, hosted by 1st Bedfordview, proved that scouting is alive and well in 2018. This year we were honoured to be joined by the Chief Scout of South Africa, Brendon Hausberger, along with a host of other scouting dignitaries both from National and from the Gauteng Region. Well done to Chris Park, Jonathan Diessel and Kyle Henry who all successfully completed the tough Gilten Patrol Leaders Training Unit (PLTU) Course in December. These proud scouts (and rightly so) were presented with their certificates and badges by Gerard Evans, the course director of 62nd Gilten PLTU.

Congratulation also go to our adult leaders who received awards. Our Scout Group Leader, Paul Diessel, received his 20 year long service award. Our Pack Scouter, Melanie Diessel, has been awarded her 15 year long service award (although she could unfortunately not attend to receive it today). Our Troop Scouter, Dylan Smith, received his 5 year service award. Assistant Troop Scouter, Ewen McAlpine, received the Medal of Merit for contributions to scouting.

The official celebrations were followed by a Scouting Triathlon – where our scouts took part in a triathlon consisting of an obstacle course, a run and a swim. Thanks to 1st Bedfordview for organising this event and to all the cubs, scouts, scouters and family members who came along to support – we put on a proud show for scouting today!
